STEVE Hilton, David Cameron’s former adviser, might seem an unlikely defender of Donald Trump. The once barefoot, compassionate conservative is now host of The Next Revolution, a weekly TV current affairs show for Fox News. He has become a proponent of what he calls ‘positive populism’ and has proved a vocal supporter of the US President.
He weighed in on Trump’s behalf before the presidential election, hailing the President’s brilliant foreign policy which, backed by economic success at home, has worked and has transformed the Middle East.
It’s an episode that has only now crossed my radar screen. It acts both as a reminder to viewers of the failures that went before Trump and as fitting a tribute as we are likely to find for Trump’s achievements – which I fear the Democrats will do their best to cancel.
As Roger Wright-Morris points out: ‘Now we are back to a man, Joe China, who has been wrong on every major issue for over four decades. Back to the Iran deal. Back to trade with China that created unemployment in USA, back to Paris climate accord, back to softness and weakness from a man who it is alleged has given up his country for Chinese luxury and will betray the huge successes of Trump who gave up luxuries for his country.’
