Ad wars: Man power strikes back

THESE are strange times indeed, when the question ‘What is a man?’ is battled out in TV commercials, but given the consumerist nature of our society perhaps I should not be surprised.

Egard Watches of the US has put together an advertisement celebrating masculinity in response to Gillette’s recent ‘toxic male’ offering.

The Egard ad points out that men account for 93 per cent of workplace fatalities and 97 per cent of war fatalities, as well as giving other telling statistics. It is not all doom and gloom, however, the voiceover asking: ‘Is a man brave?’ and ‘Is a man a hero?’

At time of writing the YouTube clip has had more than a million views already, with 84,000 likes against 1,400 dislikes.

It is safe to say this is a good day’s work for Egard.
