ABDUCTED, raped, forced to convert to Islam and marry her kidnapper, Maira Shabhaz is a 14-year-old Christian girl from Pakistan who needs asylum in the UK.
After a lengthy legal process, the Lahore High Court ruled in favour of her abductor, Mohamad Nakash Tariq, and forced her to remain with him as she had supposedly embraced Islam – as TCW reported in September.
This is despite:
1. CCTV footage of her being bundled into a car at gunpoint by three men on April 28 in Madina Town, Faisalabad.
2. Her parents producing an official birth certificate that showed she is 14 years old.
3. Her abductor producing a marriage certificate that an imam has issued a fatwa against on the grounds that it is fake.
4. The Punjab Child Marriage Restraint Act that forbids marriage to a girl under 16.
Maira escaped her abductor and is now on the run. The Catholic charity, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), is now appealing to Prime Minister Boris Johnson to grant her asylum here.
Maira’s lawyer, Sumera Shafique, told ACN that men have been knocking on doors looking for the teenager. She said: ‘Maira’s life is in constant danger because she is condemned as an apostate by her abductor and his supporters. Unless Maira and her family can leave Pakistan, they will always be at risk of being killed.’
If you would like Maira to be granted asylum, please sign ACN’s petition here.
