I HAVE been sickened for a while at the way in which too many of the MSM journalists who kept schtum during lockdown, and still remain silent on the great Covid vaccine scandal, now ‘admit’ that lockdown was wrong, yet say that it is necessary to forgive and forget and ‘move forward’ (a dreadful phrase that’s lodged in the modern lexicon).
We have named names before and I won’t start repeating them. But where were all the so-called conservative journalists who were meant to believe in freedom of expression and movement and the autonomy of the family and the body during lockdown? Silent or out of sight writing books. How can they slide back into post, making freedom-of-speech assertions as though their silence played no part in what happened? As Bob Moran pointed out at our Celebration of Dissent, they very easily let go of their conservative values.
It is not revisionism of history, but a revisionism of self, an accommodation not just of the past into present day ‘normality’ but an accommodation of self into the now publicly unarguable truths.
The blogger Eugyppius has nailed this disturbing manipulation in his recent article where he warns us not to be fooled by ‘dumb’ talk show hosts ( I would add journalists) and ‘the emerging disingenuous mistakes-were-made rhetoric’.
What you are seeing now, he says, ‘is a series of tactical admissions, as the media and the political establishment work to contain the discussion’. The examples he gives are German ones that result from the fact that ‘nobody is any longer taking the trouble to suppress dissenting voices. This means that we’re finally hearing from a whole host of otherwise prominent people, whose opinions have been suppressed since the pandemic began’.
I wish that I could say the same is happening here. It is not. Censorship of dissenting voices persists, as evidenced by GB News apparently happily dispensing with Mark Steyn and, if reports are to be believed (and various GB News hosts appear to have confirmed) allowing Ofcom inspectors to dictate the rules about Covid vaccine reporting and coverage. (See my article on the petition about Ofcom’s behaviour in TCW yesterday.)
Correct me if I am wrong but I have yet to see the MSM, press or broadcasters, in this country open up their platforms to any of the scientists, doctors and critics who spoke at our event last Thursday. Every dissenting voice is still threatened with cancellation.
Nor have we seen here what Eugyppius describes as happening in Germany – a politician being set up by the MSM as the scapegoat. No, not even Matt Hancock.
His broader analysis of the press, ‘as always . . . simulating a public discussion without actually providing one’, is however directly relevant:
‘Pandemic policies involved everything from mask mandates, to extended solitary confinement for the elderly, to nationwide house arrests, to outrageous fines for entertaining friends in your own home, to vaccine coercion and the minimisation of vaccine injuries. The press and the politicians are all agreed that they’d like to talk about as little of this mess as possible . . . The goal is to avoid any broader discussion by admitting error in one isolated area, where the opposition have already won, and then to move on.’
