BORIS Johnson and Jeremy Hunt will go head-to-head in the battle to replace Theresa May as Conservative Party leader and prime minister after the final round of MPs’ voting this evening.
Environment secretary Michael Gove was eliminated by just two votes in the fifth ballot.
The figures were:
Johnson 160
Hunt 77
Gove 75
Earlier Home Secretary Sajid Javid was eliminated in the fourth round.
Johnson and Hunt, the Foreign Secretary, will now compete in a run-off of the party’s 160,000 or so members, and the winner will be announced in the week of 22 July. You can read more here.
