JEREMY Corbyn says Labour will support an early general election – almost certainly in the run-up to Christmas.
He told the shadow cabinet this morning that with the EU extending the Brexit deadline to January 31, his test of ruling out No Deal has been met. ‘We will now launch the most ambitious and radical campaign for real change our country has ever seen,’ he added.
The dramatic news is a major boost for Boris Johnson as he mounts a fourth effort in Parliament to force a snap poll.
The Prime Minister is putting a short piece of legislation before MPs this afternoon that would trigger the vote on December 12, although the date is still being wrangled over. Mr Corbyn did not explicitly say if he would back this Bill.
The SNP and Liberal Democrats are calling for an election on 9 December. The two parties say it would prevent Mr Johnson from pushing his Brexit plan through Parliament before a poll.
