Bullies back on the baker’s case

-

The Colorado baker prosecuted under American civil rights law for declining to bake a celebratory cake for a gay couple (not for refusing to serve them) which violated his conscience has been targeted again.

Although he was vindicated by the Supreme Court, Colorado activists now claim Jack Phillips of the Masterpiece Cakeshop has refused to serve a transgender person. In fact he he’s refused to bake a cake to celebrate that person’s coming out.

In an article for the National Review, Kevin Williamson takes this case to explain how the American Left has abandoned liberalism for identity politics and a ‘might-makes-right’ ethic; and how, at the same time, individual rights are in danger of losing out to (not so) minority rights. This new politics of compulsion – described by T H White as the constitution of the ant colony where everything that is not forbidden is compulsory – is the very antithesis of liberal society.

It is an alarming insight. You can read his article here.
