THE Left continually see danger in the wrong places. While they seek to punish President Donald Trump and conservatives the real danger to us all is being ignored.
While most of the West crashed their economies in their self-destructive ‘war’ against Covid-19, China is set to become the world’s biggest economy, and thus the new superpower.
Trump was the only global leader capable of holding regimes like China and Iran at bay. Now that he is no longer POTUS the world’s worst despots are cheering, and surging forward to form a new Axis of Evil.
As I wrote last year, Joe Biden plans to reinstate Barack Obama’s insidious Iran deal. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is applauding this, pressuring the incoming Biden administration to scrap all sanctions on Iran.
The opportunistic CCP know that the US will be a weakened power under Biden. Their colonial ambitions, mostly achieved through their Belt and Road Initiative, will no longer be thwarted. Not content with the economic domination of Africa they seek to expand their influence in the Middle East. A strengthened Iran is to their advantage.
Last summer the CCP signed a 25-year agreement with Iran. China will buy Iranian oil at a heavily discounted price and in return invest around £300billion in Iranian businesses such as telecommunications, banking and ports. Over the past four years the Mullahs of Tehran have been beset with domestic grumblings over the economic fallout from sanctions and their disastrous handling of Covid-19. Now Iran will receive a financial boost from both the resurrected Iran deal and its new agreement with China, which will gain an economic foothold and a stronger military presence in the region.
China will also be able to control the Strait of Hormuz, where most of the world’s oil tankers pass through, and of strategic importance to the US. This is another vital shipping passage that the CCP seeks to command, having tried to dominate the busy shipping lane in the South China Sea. The only obstacle blocking their attempt to militarise, and so control, the Spratly and Paracel Islands was Trump.
Those cheering on a Biden victory have truly unleashed the dogs of war. An expanding Chinese economy and a newly emboldened Iran will diminish the good works of Trump’s Abraham Accords and Israel’s security will once again be threatened.
Already Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy in Lebanon and Syria, has doubled the missile arsenal aimed at Israel. Iran and China are also planning to partner on ‘weapons development’ and ‘training exercises’. What better way for the Mullahs of Iran to unite the whole country than to start a war with Israel, especially now that the pro-Iranian Democrats will soon be in power?
Biden won’t be able stop Iran and China, especially as it seems likely that he will employ a cohort of regressive ‘progressives’ for his senior team.
Some are leftovers from the Obama years and several come from Bernie Sanders’s collective of anti-Israel, pro-Iran advisers. Others are anti-nuclear, for which read anti-West.
Biden has a poor grasp on foreign policy, downplaying the threat from China.
As geo-political loyalties shift, and China rises, Biden is being left out in the cold. His influence over his beloved European Union (EU) is non-existent, as shown by the furore around the recent investment agreement, called the CAI, between the EU and the CCP.
The deal ensures a competitive trade advantage for the billions of pounds worth of trade deals that will now flow now between the two. To Biden’s credit, the EU is far more enamoured with China than he is. But in a show of disdain towards him, the EU ignored his pleas not to sign the CAI, until he could discuss it with his new administration.
Just like their new best friends, China, the EU have never had a problem circumventing Trump’s sanctions on Iran and doing good business with Tehran. So it is unsurprising that they have embraced another gross violator of human rights. But Ursula von der Leyen is seriously misguided if she thinks a trade deal with China will be to Europe’s advantage. The EU has signed away its power to the CCP, who act only in China’s interests.
With this investment deal the EU shows exactly what it thinks about China’s crackdown on freedom protests in Hong Kong, its lies about Covid-19 and climate change plans, and its suppression of free speech. Angela Merkel, who spearheaded the CAI, is positioning Europe to be China’s good side. Selling cars to Chinese buyers is seemingly more important to her than holding the CCP to account for their persecution of Christians.
But Merkel is not the shrewd politician she thinks she is. Europe will now be even more in the grip of the Belt and Road Initiative than before, indebted to the CCP who wield their economic power like an axe.
As part of the CAI deal China have demanded access to Europe’s energy sector, a warning signal of their plans to influence the EU. Those who control energy control so much more. The CAI emboldens the CCP economically and diplomatically. Expect EU members to vote for whatever China tells them to do so at the UN. China knows that economic power brings diplomatic privileges, made most apparent by the silence of indebted Islamic states over the plight of the Uighur Muslims imprisoned in Chinese concentration camps. The EU will be persuaded to be more anti-American and anti-Israel, and align itself with China and Iran.
This strengthening of ties between the EU, Iran and China poses a dangerous threat to what’s left of our free West. Biden’s concerns about China’s economic practices are only rhetoric against his enabling of China’s power through the resurrection of the Iran deal. If the new US President is unable to influence a friendly power like the EU he will be but a toothless tiger against the might of China and this new Axis of Evil.
