Chris McGovern: Lions led by donkeys

-

CHRIS McGovern, former education policy adviser to Margaret Thatcher, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education and TCW’s education writer, deserves the attention of the education establishment. It is time they started listening to him before our schools descend into further chaos.

For far too long they have ignored the disastrous effect of Left-liberal ideology on the schooling of our children. For far too longer they have blinded themselves to its impact on behaviour and educational standards.

Yesterday in the Telegraph Chris wrote on one aspect of this, in response to a Policy Exchange publication, It Just Grinds You Down.

He castigates the naive, child-centred approach to teaching which has directly led to classroom disruption and now to the latest crisis – that of recruiting reluctant teachers. Why would anyone now want to enter what was once an esteemed profession? Why would teachers not now be voting with their feet and taking early retirement or opting out?

[TCW sub-editor’s note: ‘Lions led by donkeys’ is a First World War reference, as Chris intended, but he mistyped WW2 instead of WW1. The Telegraph sub-editor failed to pick this up and wrote it out in error as the Second World War.]
