You are our dear readers and we want to wish you a very happy Christmas. Without you we would not exist. With you we have this year gone from strength to strength, our readership reaching new heights this autumn. And what a year of disappointment, despair, turmoil, hope and anxiety it has been. It seems a century ago that we were running our ‘Toppling Theresa’ series. In fact it was only eight months ago when we feared we might never be rid of her that she finally resigned.
And so began this latest episode of Britain’s Brexit saga. How did we get here – are we finally on the way to freedom from the EU or will there be further reversions and disappointments along the way? Who amongst the politicians can we trust? Over the next 12 days we will be reminding you of this past political year with our key comments from each month about what they said and then did.
This will be but part of our TCW Christmas schedule to allow the few of us responsible for the daily output to take a break and recoup our strength for what’s bound to be another year of political and cultural battles.
We are social conservatives and at the heart of our social conservatism are the family relationships we, society, depend on. Christmas is the time par excellence to mark this. Not to be turning off our iPhones, closing down our computers to give time and attention to those who brought you and you brought into the world is to disrespect that.
But The Conservative Woman has brought together an extended family of its very own and it’s time to acknowledge that too. Our readers comment, talk, argue, discuss and joke – are sometimes rude to each other – like one great family sometimes. We think we may be unique in this. That’s why over the next two weeks we’ve decided to hand part of the site over to you, to a Readers’ Forum. We’ll suggest a talking point every day – some lighter hearted, some more serious – all with cultural significance. Then it will be over to you, to write your shorter or longer comments and of course to discuss with each other.
We will continue to run our Christmas carol a day and there’ll be a number of book reviews – and you can add your own suggestions too.
Until January 2, 2020, peace and good will to you!
