First we were told that we needed to lock down for just three weeks to ‘flatten the curve’, then that ‘schools are safe’, and now that the vaccine will mean tough restrictions will ‘recede into the past’ by spring. But already, the latest of the Government’s promises has begun to fall apart, as England’s chief medical officer has suggested – or forewarned – that the Government will need to introduce new restrictions next winter because coronavirus ‘benefits’ from cooler months. ‘We might have to bring in a few [restrictions] in the next winter for example,’ Chris Whitby has said; ‘that’s possible, because winter will benefit the virus.’ This is all far from over – Mail
