More than half of all adults now paid by the state
27 million Britons are now being funded by the government, analysis of official figures suggests. The news comes amid warnings that the furlough scheme introduced as a response to the coronavirus could cost more than the NHS; ‘ clearly not a sustainable situation’, the Chancellor admits.
