I WROTE in TCW a year ago that the election of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib to Congress signified that the Corbynisation of the Democratic party had begun.Their shilling for the Iranian regime shows that this is now complete.
Omar and Tlaib are CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations, linked to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas) entryists. The insipid Democratic Speaker, Nancy Pelosi, has capitulated to these Islamists over and over again.
The Democrats have made grievance politics into a fine art, yet their lack of empathy for the Iranian people defying their brutal oppressors through protests on the streets indicates that they have fallen for the Islamist narrative that only the West victimise Muslims. The truth is that Islamic regimes are notorious for oppressing and persecuting their own people.
Last Tuesday Democrats blocked a vote in the House of Representatives on a resolution which supports the Iranian protesters.
The resolution condemned the actions of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps in shooting down an Ukrainian passenger plane with the loss of 176 lives, and denounced the regime’s murder of 1,500 brave innocents who were protesting against this and the oppressive mullahs of Tehran. The resolution also requested that the Iranian government cease their violence and protect freedom of speech and the rights of their citizens to protest. A hard ask, given that the regime shut down the internet during the protests and habitually imprison women who take off their hijabs.
Passing this resolution would have shown the brave Iranian people, tired of over 40 years of harsh theocratic rule, that they are heard and supported by the most powerful country in the world.
That the Democrats refused to condemn the the regime’s slaughter of innocents shows that the party has completely ceded control to the Islamists and Quislings among them. Their leadership seems terrified of standing up for freedom and justice in case they are accused of ‘Islamophobia’. Pelosi and her ilk are also suffering from such an extreme form of Trump Derangement Syndrome that they would rather thwart the President than stand united with decent people around the world, including the Iranian diaspora, who oppose this evil Islamist regime of Iran.
Their cowardly actions are unsurprising given that the previous week the Democratic-dominated House approved a non-binding resolution to prevent President Trump from taking further military action against Iran without the approval of Congress. The co-sponsor of this resolution was Omar, who sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee, an outrage given that this Islamist never misses an opportunity to side with America’s enemies.
How happy the Iranian regime must be that Democrats sitting in the highest echelon of US government side with their enemy and against democracy. How dispiriting for the brave protesters to realise the blood of innocent Iranians seemingly means nothing to large swathes of the Democratic party, and that they are expedient collateral damage for the Democrats in their games against the Republicans.
So far the overwrought cries that Trump started WW3 with the assassination of Qasem Soleimani have not proved true.The Iranian regime understand only strength, as all bullies do, and will acquiesce to it. The best way to stand up to them is through a show of united strength. That the Democratic party want to treat the regime, a global exporter of terror, like a group of misunderstood children shows that they are not fit to be in power, ever.
