Paul Dacre, editor of the Daily Mail for 26 years, is stepping down. You can expect him to be the target of many denouncements from the Left because the Mail dares to challenge the Leftist dogma on the EU, immigration and the family.
The Mail is not relentlessly pro-EU, does not believe in open borders and thinks it is perhaps not a great idea to destroy the nuclear family. For this, the Dacre-led Daily Mail is loathed.
Dacre is a private person and interviews are few and far between. This appearance on Desert Island Discs is illuminating. Dacre wanted to be a journalist and editor all his life and he admits there is lots of shouting at the Mail offices because ‘shouting creates energy’.

On a personal note he says that ‘no man can become a success unless he has a wife to pick him up when he is down’. He declares he was blessed to have his wife. You don’t hear that too often these days.
A great listen.
