Here is a fact you will not hear on the mainstream media in the UK: the US Democrat party are an utter disgrace. Their reaction to Donald Trump’s awesome State of the Union address was to sit on their hands and mock the things that most Americans hold dear. In fact, their Trump derangement syndrome is so bad that they even sat out the policy ideas that should be a Democrat’s dream come true.
Trump talked about a budget-busting infrastructure deal, something most fiscal conservatives will oppose and Democrats would love, and they sat it out. Trump talked about paid family leave, another entitlement programme that many on the Right think is unaffordable, and they sat that out too. The fact that black unemployment is at an all-time low was met with stony silence. And when Trump talked about unity, when he talked about bringing the people together, Democrat Nancy Pelosi looked as if he had said he was going to drown 100 kittens in the bathtub. Like I said – deranged.
Can the Democrats not see what they are doing, spitting in the eyes of their traditional blue-collar supporters? I can only assume they are doing this because their base, the ones that live in California and New York and like to obsess about bathrooms, are dragging them to the deranged far-Left.
For instance we have MSNBC’s commentator Joy Reid tweeting and trashing various American institutions: ‘Church . . . family . . . police . . . military . . . the national anthem . . . Trump trying to call on all the tropes of 1950s-era nationalism. The goal of this speech appears to be to force the normalization of Trump on the terms of the bygone era his supporters are nostalgic for.’
Reid is often on MSNBC, and although they are the craziest of all, because she has the air waves some in the Democrat party think this is representative of the blue voters.
Since when was the police service a 1950s trope? And family? Is the Democrat party now the anti-family party? Run with that one – I’m sure it’s a vote-winner.
Then Reid takes a pop at the national anthem – the one thing that unites Americans. My advice to the dim Democrat party is not to surrender the anthem or the flag to any particular group. The anthem and flag are unifying symbols that Americans are proud of. This applies to traditional Democratic voters as much as it does the Republicans, so mocking them, labelling them as regressive, is unbelievably stupid.
But perhaps this tells us a lot about this particular part of the Democratic base: they don’t like America. They do not like their fellow Americans – the deplorables out there. They are in fact anti-family, anti-faith, anti-police and anti-military and anthem. And you know what, the voters in the swing states sense this.
Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren said she attended the State of the Union address because she ‘wanted it burned into her eyes’, for some unknown reason. Democrat Senator Cory Booker left the address early while his fellow politicians were chanting ‘USA’. Not a good look.
At this stage, the numbers are looking good for Trump. Unemployment is down, the stock market is up and firms are giving employees pay rises off the Trump tax cut. This week, at least, has been a good week for the Republicans.
For the Democrat party and their extremist base it has been deplorable. They are pulling further and further away from their blue-collar voting base that still values the American dream, flag and its values. This anti-Trump fanaticism might float well on the red carpet in Hollywood, but it cuts little ice in the Rust Belt. It’s time for the Democrats to get a grip.
