NGELA Merkel told Boris Johnson in their now notorious phone conversation that the EU is insisting that any Brexit deal must include the full and permanent economic annexation of Northern Ireland by the EU. She said that if Germany quit the EU it could so without surrendering any territory, but the UK was special since it has the North-South border and a history of sectarian violence. Therefore, as Martin Selmayr had earlier claimed, the UK can leave but will have to have one of its provinces annexed as the price. Needless to say, PM Johnson was outraged and said that in that case the EU was ending the possibility of any deal.
This statement of the EU hard-line and predatory policy is very helpful: it discloses the bad faith of the EU all along, suspected by many observers and international trade lawyers, and by TCW commentators such as Peter Gardner. The EU has ruthlessly weaponised the historic Irish political situation and picked the scab on the gradually healing wound. It has demythologised the Remainer mantra that the EU has kept peace in Europe since 1945. No, it has recklessly raised the temperature and arguably breached the Good Friday Agreement (GFA) with its backstop customs union device. The EU was similarly devious and dangerous in its participation in the Balkan explosion of violence, leaving it to the USA and UK to impose peace. Germany’s early recognition of an independent Croatia triggered warfare after the end of Yugoslavia – a not dissimilar foreign policy disaster.
Taking a historical view of post-1945 European peace, Frau Merkel will well know of the annexation of her North German territories by the victorious Soviets to Poland. In particular Danzig, the important sea port city, became Gdansk. And there we have to recall the activist Donald Tusk who made trouble for the Soviet apparatchik in Poland, General Jaruzelski. How ironic that Tusk now stands in the shoes – by analogy – of the communist General in seeking to bully a nation state into remaining in a powerful economic bloc. Yes, Angela and Donald know all about annexations of sensitive and important provinces by hostile powers, and are part and parcel of this probably illegal heist against the UK and infringement of a major international treaty, the GFA. Soviet satellite states were more or less trade colonies, Verhofstadt’s precise and open description of what the EU was aiming to achieve in its ‘negotiations’, as seen in the BBC documentary Brexit: Behind Closed Doors.
That Mrs May, her cabinet and civil service could consent to the WA/PD in its surrender to this annexation demand is beyond contempt. Further, that the remainer MPs are now revealed as working for and with the EU against a fair deal and to block a quite legitimate walking away means we have an EU party inside Parliament, hand in glove with Brussels. Hammond disclosed that the EU lawyers drafted the Benn ‘Surrender Bill’, making Parliament complicit in directly subverting a genuine Brexit. These MPs are happy to make Parliament the glove puppet for EU realpolitik, with Speaker Bercow as an Erich Honecker stand-in. We had better not go into German-Irish wartime relations, nor the response of President de Valera to the death of the Fuehrer. But the EU has been very happy to abuse Article 50 and expand it into a device for a land grab, with important links to recent history.
STOP PRESS: The Telegraph reports that Speaker John Bercow has held secret talks with the EU and agreed to prevent a clean break Brexit. You can read more here.
