Generalissimo Johnson’s outrageous threat to students

-

THIS gruesome government becomes ever more repugnant. The Prime Minister’s latest wicked wheeze is to put the frighteners on unvaccinated students by threatening to bar them from lecture theatres and halls of residence.

According to Monday’s Times, Generalissimo Johnson is ‘raging’ because not every over-18 has jumped at his command to be vaccinated against a virus which poses them almost no threat. The blustering buffoon had already dampened last week’s so-called Freedom Day by targeting the same uncompliant group and directly threatening to restrict access to entertainment venues popular with young adults.

His bombshell announcement on July 19 that vaccine passes would soon be required in nightclubs and at other unspecified large gatherings came as a shock to many – including most of the Cabinet who, according to Tuesday’s Telegraph, seemingly had it sprung on them only a few hours beforehand. The paper also reports that Johnson proceeded in the face of objections by ‘a majority’ of ministers.

Not that any of the dissenters have been honourable enough to break ranks and speak out, far less resign from the Government in protest against this unprecedented repression. The feeble resistance in Cabinet apparently asked for the unveiling of Johnson’s deplorable plan only to be delayed rather than abandoned.

Such a timorous rebellion was easily ignored. A ‘senior minister’ for whom ‘the rush was not okay’, told the Telegraph: ‘Michael (Gove) acknowledged the concerns but said they would press on.’

Depressingly, another quote from the same source confirms that in Cabinet there is a contemptible lack of integrity: ‘Quite a few of us are okay with passports.’

In which case, we must assume that these autocrats concur with the aforementioned Michael Gove. On Tuesday, as TCW reported yesterday, not only did he reiterate that introducing Covid certification is ‘doing what’s right for public health’, ghastly Gove had the gall to moralise: ‘Ultimately, if you can be vaccinated and you refuse to, that’s a selfish act. You’re putting other people’s lives and health at risk.’

What a shower. Regardless of whether one regards the injections as protection or poison, all adults – and only adults – must be free to assess their own risk and decide whether or not vaccination against coronavirus is for them. Government is entitled to explain, recommend and even cajole; but in a liberal democracy no one should ever be bullied, by being excluded from everyday activities, into undergoing an unsought medical procedure.

Monday’s Times having been briefed in an attempt to frighten young people into conforming, for that morning’s media-round the Government’s messenger was not even a senior member of the Cabinet. Incredibly, the Westminster wusses left a largely unknown Under-Secretary of State to defend the dystopian and unparalleled prospect of medical apartheid in UK education.

Delegated to endorse a despicable plan formulated above her pay grade, on her various radio and TV appearances Vicky Ford robotically repeated that ‘double vaccination is a really important route to normality’.

The script recited by Ford seemed not to have been updated during the past six months. With the Office for National Statistics reporting that more than 90 per cent of adults throughout the UK are now presumed to have antibodies against Covid-19, there is no reason further to delay the return to complete normality; the remaining restrictions are solely punishment exercises.

There is of course a widespread view that Johnson is bluffing, that forewarning of Covid certification is simply a scare tactic in his deranged drive to vaccinate the recalcitrant. Perhaps, though, it is complacent to assume so.

Using public health to justify a two-tier society, even when the belief is genuinely held, is depraved. Yet if anything, deceitfully dragooning the disobedient by threatening them with second-class citizenship is even more repellent.

Last week’s pledge to punish the unvaccinated by excluding them from certain venues and events was shameful enough. This week’s threat to noncomplying young people that ‘raging’ Boris Johnson is prepared to block their educational opportunities just to demonstrate who is boss, is all the more reprehensible and should alienate every liberty-loving conservative.

Johnson is unfit to hold office. It is time to bring the curtain down on the coercing clown.

THE UK Medical Freedom Alliance UK Medical Freedom Alliance (ukmedfreedom.org) has written an open letter to all university vice chancellors and heads of higher education colleges urging them to refrain from imposing any Covid-19 health-related conditions on their students, specifically strongly to resist imposing any requirements for students to accept a Covid-19 vaccine.

Apart from their concerns about vaccine safety, the group set out the violation of laws and guidelines around informed consent that would result from imposing this condition on students’ access to education.
