We don’t like new taxes. But this one is a corker. Dan Hannan wants a celebrity fame tax of 20 percent.
Who would pay? “The sorts of people who get recruited by political causes as celebrity supporters – television personalities, comedians and the like,” says the Tory MEP. It would “reflect the fact that they get paid to do really cool things, and are at the same time asked to opine about politics without the bother of getting themselves elected to anything.”
Watch out Russell Brand, Eddie Izzard and Stephen Fry. We’re coming for you. Now let’s see how you like your high tax left wing utopia.
