FOR some semi-light relief in these days of coronavirus and culture wars, I thought I’d share this short video sent to me by a kind reader about the Covid-19 response in Europe and the US. It shows how most governments did nothing for three months before finally imposing a useless and costly lockdown.
It is fun and funny, and despite the occasional obscenity provides a very neat month-by-month resume of the spread of the disease, deaths data and the incoherent policy response. A health warning however – a leftist virus that seems to have pervaded its weird and irrational conclusion – that the best way of defending the West next time round is to impose Universal Basic Income. How that could work I leave to your imagination. But up until the last minute it’s a good watch.
The video may also exaggerate the impact of contact tracing, it is a contested point, and it also fails to point out how the virus in the West has spread mainly in hospitals and care homes or why high cost blanket lockdown and social distancing measures have proved of so little value, especially to the most vulnerable, despite their high economic cost.
To fill those gaps I point readers to TCW’s Will Jones – who has been consistently ahead of the game with the accuracy of his observations and analysis – and his various highly informed articles, written for us over the last three months.
