We are known by the company we keep. If Saturday’s ridiculous protest march against Brexit is anything to go by, the Remainers are associating with some very unsavoury characters. The cross-dressing comedian, Eddie Izzard, led thousands of anti-democracy agitators on the so-called March for Europe. Accompanying him was the human rights campaigner, Peter Tatchell, a man who eviscerates Israel yet would be thrown off the top of a building by Hamas for being gay. Backing this exercise in hubris is Caroline Lucas, the co-leader of a minor political party which repudiates itself by wanting open borders yet protests when we are forced to build homes on our green spaces to accommodate the consequences of such a stupid policy. These people unquestionably embody the concept of a walking contradiction.
A virtue-signalling sign held aloft by one of the protesters remonstrated against the fabricated idea of having ‘our citizenship of Europe’ taken away by Brexit. This really made me think that we have finally entered the twilight zone. We voted to leave a trade agreement – no more and no less. The irony is that most of these protesters claim to hate the elite, yet they here they are protesting on their behalf. We did not vote to leave Europe. We voted to leave the EU – a corrupt dictatorship run by a bunch of elitist old white men – the very group that these protesters claim to hate.
The sight of so many police swooping down on the man who stole Eddie Izzard’s pink beret made me wonder if they had all been given the day off from patrolling Twitter. I felt slightly nauseous as I looked at the cretinous images of beaming faces painted in blue and yellow and of women dancing in homage to their masters in Brussels, proudly twirling their EU flag skirts.
But the worst part of it all is that Remainers are still continuing their collective arrogant sulk against the democratic process. I guess I should not be surprised given that they so desperately want the UK to remain part of one of the most undemocratic institutions in the world. I implore Theresa May and her government to ignore this bunch of silly spoilt brats and adhere to the very democracy which made our country great. Activate Article 50 now.
