Laura Keynes: The family is the building block of human society? Heresy to the liberal West

-

The Economist is positively outraged that: “Liberal ideas on sexuality and reproduction, which have become an important plank of external as well as domestic policy for many Western countries, are being resisted successfully by a socially conservative coalition led by Islamic countries and Russia.”

It’s talking, of course, about the resolution passed recently by the UN Human Rights Council, which included the statement: “The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State”.

I mean, honestly, who’d think such a thing these days? The family as the natural unit of society? Only crazy Russians and Islamic extremists think that, right? And the UN – what is that? Only a fool actually think it means ‘United Nations’, right? We all know UN actually means ‘The Civilised West’, and every other nation just has to get with the liberal progressive programme or else.
