Laura Perrins: Don’t throw Christian schools out with the Islamic bathwater

Yesterday, our own Rev Jules Gomes set out in alarming detail the extent of the failure of some Muslims from Pakistan and Bangladesh to integrate into British life.

The Casey Review reveals, in particular, gross abuses against Muslim women in these communities, most of which are never pursued by the police who are either too inept to care or too afraid of being labelled racist.

The abuses include husbands forbidding their wives from leaving the house, genital mutilation, forced marriage, honour killing and about 30 to 85 Sharia courts in Britain ‘that have been supporting the values of extremists, condoning wife-beating, ignoring marital rape and allowing forced marriage’ with ‘100,000 sharia marriages in the UK, many of which are not recognised under UK laws and leave women without full legal rights upon divorce.’

These women are easy to subjugate as many are plucked from Pakistan. In one northern town ‘all except one of the Asian Councillors had married a wife from Pakistan.’ At the Bradford Royal Infirmary, 80 per cent of babies of Pakistani ethnicity had at least one parent born outside the UK. This was creating a “first generation in every generation” in which ‘each new generation grows up with a foreign-born parent.’ It seems British raised Muslim girls are not good enough for these Muslim men. Perhaps, they have read too many books. In English.

But don’t worry folks, the powers that be have a plan. First, they are going to enforce all the criminal laws that are already on the books that prohibit FGM, forced marriage, assault and coercive control and the ban on bigamy. And most important of all, they are going to prohibit the issuing of spousal visas to those who live outside the EU, or failing that, there will be a stringent English test for those who seek such visas. Just kidding! That is not going to happen, as that would be hard. Instead, we are going to shut down the local vicarage school! That will make everything better.

This is the view of Rachel Sylvester at The Times who never lets a good case of Islamic abuse go to waste. In this piece she conveniently gets to lump all faith schools, including the Christian ones, in together, telling us they are all divisive. They should all be shut down NOW otherwise not only will social solidarity be at risk but nothing less than national security as well.

This lame attack on Christian schools would be funny if it were not so predictable. Every time there is scandal involving Islamic schools, or indeed the Trojan horse plot which involved state non-faith schools taken over by Muslim extremists, the great and the good (especially at The Times) go after the Church of England village schools as well as all the Catholic ones. They do this because they are hostile to Christianity even more so than Islam and will do anything to try to shut it out of public life.

Sylvester tells us, “As Britain becomes more secular, it is time to separate education and faith.” Well it is not more secular in Bradford but she does not seem to care about that. You could also say that as the national debt increases we should all take out more credit cards. Such is the logic here.

In this great secular utopia, instead of teaching children about advent and the nativity as is their birth right, we are going to have secular schools instead with G*d knows what – Winterfest at best, and nothingness at worst. Meanwhile the abuses that go on in some Muslim communities will continue.

Let us not forget that, historically, church schools existed long before the state ones. State education only came to pass to imbue all children with Christian values, not just those whose parents could afford the fees.

So if you want to set up your own atheist/nothingness schools fill your boots. But keep your Godless hands off the Christian ones.
