Laura Perrins: Feminists and male supremacists have much in common – both are wrong

I have a confession to make. Late at night, I am on the internet looking at YouTube clips. I know they are bad for my soul. I know it is wrong to watch them but I just cannot help myself. They are videos made by MGTOW, Men Going their Own Way, only they never seem to go anywhere.

One video did catch my eye. It was discussed here as a response to perhaps the least inspiring video promoting marriage to men, ever.

Dull, droning, and only about numbers, if I was a bloke it would not persuade me. For MGTOW, it was all too much.

The pro-marriage video explains how when men get married their income increases significantly due to them working on average 400 hours more per year. Married men seek and gain promotions quickly and are favoured by the employers over single men, who view them as more responsible.

MGTOW did not quibble with any of the numbers, but it did have a few things to say about why this happens, motivating factors, and whether it is a good thing.

MGTOW accept that the income of married men increases considerably but point out that this is not in fact their money. The income earned by these married men is spent not on themselves but on their wives and children.

To MGTOW, this is akin to slavery, or becoming a wage slave. In particular, it points out that working an extra 400 hours per year means there are 400 hours a man does not get to spend on things he enjoys. This is ‘self-sacrifice’ and although it admits some see this as noble act, it does not benefit the man himself.

MGTOW believes only a crazy man would enter into such a contract – better to stay single, earning half what the married man earns, but spending it on yourself.

What MGTOW shows, without wanting to or knowing about, is that the gender pay gap that opens up between men and women in their thirties is a good thing for women, especially married women and their children. Sacrificing 400 hours per year of your free time, to earn more money to spend on your family, is a noble act by married men, and something that is so easily ignored, or worse ridiculed by feminists.

The truth is only a crazy society would think that men earning money to provide for their families is terrible and should be reversed. The kind of society that says to men – don’t provide for women and children is a society on a suicide mission.

For years now the feminists, who I will refer to as the nutters, use the gender pay gap to bludgeon people into thinking women are oppressed. Hah! You should watch some MGTOW videos that positively rail against a ‘gynocentric society.’

But MGTOW are right on this, aren’t they? Married men do earn more than single men (and women in their thirties) but most of it is spent on their families. MGTOW is also right to say this is an act of self-sacrifice by men. They think this is foolish, I think it is noble.

In fact, at some point, it says, why earn all this money just ‘to take care of other people?’ Well, why indeed? I guess most men do it because they love their families.

Interestingly MGTOW disdains feminism and traditionalism (I assume conservatism) in equal measure. ‘Feminists ask men to sacrifice themselves for women, conservatives for society,’ it says.

Again I accept this – we have pointed out at The Conservative Woman time and again that much of what men have traditionally done is self-sacrificing and done out of service to women and their children. Only the nutters cannot see this, or deem it a bad thing. As do, might I add, MGTOW. What strange bedfellows they make.
