I was hoping that we had reached peak anti-Trump hysteria, but I fear not. At the weekend, the publicity hungry Piers Morgan was told to ‘f*** off’ on live TV by a comedian who I doubt knows much about anything.
Twitter went wild – supposedly telling somebody to “f*** off” now constitutes an argument. Morgan explained that the Trump visa suspension Executive Order was not in fact a ‘Muslim ban.’ This is factually correct but, as always, to the Left, facts mean nothing. Emotion is everything. Said comedian retorted mockingly that – oh, perhaps Morgan should give Trump a chance and that Hitler had to ‘work-up’ to the Holocaust.
Morgan learned the hard way that sometimes, some debates are not worth having if they are with those who do not want to debate but merely want to emote and paint you as a bad guy.
I don’t know how many times now I have seen this Executive Order compared to the Holocaust. It is nothing of the sort. It was shoddily rolled-out but it is a travel restriction for 90 days on those coming from countries that are war torn and terrorist prone. “It was President Barack Obama who designated the seven covered countries—Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya, and Yemen—as so dangerous that if a European citizen or anyone else eligible to enter the US without a visa merely visited them, that citizen would lose his right to visa-less entry to the US.”
The order might be stupid but it is probably constitutional. But instead of rational debate as to why the Executive Order might not be a great move, instead we have seen endless comparisons to this being like the Holocaust at worst or the Nuremberg laws at least.
The Left, despite in some quarters having serious problems with anti-Semitism, has gone full Holocaust Envy. What we are witnessing now from the hysterical Left is a form of Holocaust Envy – a close cousin of Selma Envy.
It is like they want Trump intentionally to persecute peace-loving moderate Muslims, as opposed to protecting the citizens of the United States from the threat that comes from Islamic extremists.
The Left desire this so they can prove to themselves and the world that they are good people because they would stop such persecution. They want this great moral test – this clash between good (them) and evil (everyone who is not them).
The truth is we all would like to think that if a country edged towards fascism or violence or something akin to the Nuremberg laws or a new Holocaust, that we would stand up and be counted.
We all would like to think we would protect the weak and innocent, perhaps to our own personal detriment, perhaps even sacrificing ourselves to do so. We would like to think this, even though history tells us many of us would fall short.
So the Left has invented this new threat from the Right in the form of Trump and his shoddily rolled-out Executive Order. But this Holocaust Envy must be called out for the sick perversion that it is. It is demeaning to the six million Jews who were slaughtered in the Holocaust itself. It is a hate crime against those in middle America who voted for Trump.
And it is morally wrong to fail to recognise the very real threat emanating from Islamic State, a group that is as anti-Semitic as it comes.
The reality is state violence usually comes from the Left due to their determination to create a utopia. In Cambodia the Khmer Rouge killed an estimated one and half to three million people in an attempt to create a form of agrarian socialism founded on the ideals of Stalinism and Maoism. Communist Russia killed anywhere between 20 – 40 million people in seeking their utopia. North Korea, North Vietnam – all are leftist totalitarian states. And finally let’s not forget that Nazi stood for National Socialism. Yes, there were right-wing fascists in Spain and Italy but the genocides usually come in the name of communist or socialist utopias.
The hysterical Left must be stopped in their Holocaust Envy. It is demeaning, it is dangerous and it is wrong.
