Tristram Hunt MP remains the only reason why I may vote Conservative at the next election. The idea of having this man preside over my children’s education fills me with such fear that I feel obligated to vote for the useless Tories. His appearance on BBC TV’s Question Time confirmed this view.
On the programme, Cristina Odone said that some of her best teachers were not ‘qualified teachers.’ Tristram dismissed Ms Odone’s argument because her teachers were only nuns and, according to Tristram, nuns do not count. They are not ‘real teachers.’ They are just there a prayin’ or whatever he thinks they do.
This just sums up what a ignorant nincompoop Tristram is.
The privately educated Tristram sadly did not have the benefit of ever being taught by nuns. You can tell due to his lack of humility and general uselessness. It is just astonishing how easily he can dismiss women who dedicate their entire adult lives to educating girls.
One could argue that nuns were the original feminists. They were not of the view that education is ‘wasted on girls’ and young women. They educated girls, often from very poor families, long before the State came along to do an inadequate job of it.
I had the benefit of being taught by some nuns in my convent school in Ireland. Although they were few and far between as their equally talented lay teachers were in the majority, I always remember them fondly. My maths teacher in particular was excellent and inspirational. The school catered to a mix of backgrounds and abilities – daughters of university lecturers were schooled beside those from working class backgrounds.
I remember to this day the group of girls who graduated from my class. They included those who went on to become nurses, doctors, business consultants, teachers and scientists. It is no accident that no excuses were made for poor standards.
So Tristram and the rest of his privately educated cronies can take a hike. What on earth does he know about teaching in often challenging environments anyway?
This male, elite politician should think twice before taking a swipe at an entire class of female teachers because of their faith. His prejudice is breathtaking.
