On Friday 20th January 2017 Donald Trump will become the 45th President of the United States of America following his defeat of Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.
People, be prepared. The liberals are going to be angry. Very angry indeed. In fact not since Lincoln freed the slaves are you going to witness a Democratic meltdown quite like this. The snowflakes will melt and spend many hours on Facebook de-friending anyone who does not believe the world is going to end on January 20th.
Indeed the day after Inauguration day will see a Woman’s March on Washington which will include Planned Parenthood as a ‘key partner.’ Of course it will. Planned Parenthood are petrified Trump might set some limitations on the baby-killing business so profitable to them. Other hipsters leading the march include feminist godmother Gloria Steinem.
Ms Steinem said in a statement: “I am proud to be one of thousands who will come to Washington to make clear that we will keep working for a democracy in which we are linked as human beings, not ranked by race or gender or class or any other label.” (My emphasis).
Oh, dear sweet Lord the irony. Having spent months slicing up the electorate on gender and every other conceivable label we now have Steinem saying she is only concerned with the person on the inside. They really are shameless.
And just to make sure that we know the marchers are not in any way interested in categorising people, and putting them in boxes according to ‘identity labels’, we are told, ‘the rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonised, and threatened many of us — women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault.” Hang on. I’m confused. Are the Democrats still going with this identity politics thing or not?
It is true. Trump did once refer to voters as a ‘basket of deplorables’. Oh no, hang on that was Hillary. It is amazing, is it not, that despite this ‘insulting rhetoric’, so many millions of women and Hispanics managed to vote for Trump. What were they thinking?
Anyway, it is easy to dismiss this as the precious liberals throwing a tantrum having slowly realised that life does not always go their way, but this would be dangerously short-sighted. As Melanie Phillips explained, this has the potential for a permanent grassroots insurrection against the Trump administration involving many different constituencies. And it will be the out of office community organser-in-chief who will spearhead it.
