Dear Men. Do you smile when answering questions? Are you patient with your partner and given to making friendly chit-chat? If so then you are a “benevolently sexist” and guilty of doing the female sex down.

Now and again I come across something that leaves me in no doubt as to why I am not a feminist. I am not a feminist because I have not lost my senses. Take this latest piece of ‘research’ by Professor Judith Hall, of Northeastern University in Boston. This ‘research’ was based on the very representative group of 27 men. Anyway, detective Hall sniffs out all the ‘benevolent sexists’ amongst them.

According to this research men are ‘benevolent sexists’ if they do such things as hold a door open for a woman or smile while waiting patiently for their partner to answer a question. In my world these are the gentlemen.

After deciding that chatting, being patient and smiling makes men ‘benevolent sexists’, there was worse to come. These evil, evil men also believe that women should be rescued before men from a sinking ship. It is true, these benevolent sexist men hold women in such high regard they are “willing to sacrifice themselves to save and protect women.”

Women are warned however that ‘benevolent sexism is attractive ideologically for women because they may find it hard to resist the allure of sexism in such a form’ but ‘benevolent sexist men perceive women as the weaker gender at the same time’ and this will lead to gender inequality across society.

You are damn right women find this ‘benevolent sexist’ dinosaur of a man alluring. What woman in her right mind would not find a man who gives up his seat in the lifeboat attractive? Most sensible women find this masculine drive to protect women and children not just appealing but a moral good. Only the man-hating feminists could view this as some kind of catastrophe for wimmin kind.

What these researchers have done is taken the best qualities of masculinity and chivalry and condemned them has sexist. I have little doubt that when they tell us that these men perceived women as the ‘weaker gender’ they mean purely in physical terms, which is a fact. I doubt any of them believes a woman’s gender disqualifies her from becoming President of the United States.

The only people who are sexist in this nonsense piece of research are the researchers themselves. If they really believe that women who revere chivalry are going to be prevented from becoming heart surgeons or bankers then they have a very low opinion of women indeed.

These dim-witted researchers need to take a long hard look at themselves. There are men out there raping their way through villages in Darfur and towns in the north of England. There are men out there who kill their partners. But when we have men who are nothing but courteous and polite to their partners, men who would sacrifice their lives for women, we are told – no they are problem.

My only hope is that these female researchers find themselves one day on a sinking ship with men who have absorbed their warnings about ‘benevolent sexism’ and given up their chivalrous ways. Then we will be spared from anymore of this garbage.
