You really didn’t think we would let this one slide, did you? Diane Abbott’s laughable appointment as Shadow Home Secretary was no longer a joke yesterday as she monumentally fluffed an interview about something as basic as paying for the police.
When quizzed by LBC’s Nick Ferrari on how Labour would pay for 10,000 extra police, Diane said it would cost £300,000 (that’s £30 each), before ‘correcting’ herself to £80 million (that’s £8,000 each). What she meant to say was £300 million. Just a small error, then.
After spending the rest of the interview mainly saying ‘um’ and ‘er’, Diane hit back later – wailing that the media were to blame as they focused on her lamentable performance rather than the ‘real issue’ of dwindling police ranks.
Mrs May seems to have timed her election call perfectly.
