First he said police shouldn’t shoot to kill marauding terrorists; now Jeremy Corbyn has mistakenly said that a police officer shot in Belfast had died.
Thankfully, the officer is still alive and recovering from surgery in a stable condition. Corbyn’s team scrambled to say that he “meant to say ‘nearly died’”.
Justifiably labelled a “jaw-dropping gaffe” by the Police Federation for Northern Ireland and “one of the worst displays of crass ignorance that could be imagined” by MP Nigel Dodds, this mess-up shows just how little attention Corbyn pays to Northern Ireland and the stellar work the PSNI do every day.
It’s ok for Jez though. It’s not like he and his right hand man John McDonnell are buddies with ex-IRA….oh wait….
‘Corbyn, you’re nicked. For crimes against competence’.
