No one cares about Birmingham because their football teams are rubbish, says the Labour politician bidding to become the region’s mayor.
The foot-in-mouth comments came from Sion Simon, who further dug himself into a hole by saying that Liverpool and Manchester have a “massive advantage” because their football teams are good.
Simon, a Labour MEP, went onto say that this was one of the many reasons why Birmingham “starts with disadvantages”.
David Cameron had the good manners to at least pretend he supported the Villa.
