Former Deputy PM Nick Clegg has replaced banker bashing with banker cashing.
Last month, (in addition to a law firm paying him over £10,500 for 30 minutes work), Clegg was paid a whopping £36,660 by Barclays – who he once described as one of the City’s sources of “embarrassment and shame” – for lecturing them about how wonderful the EU is.
This fee came hot on the heels of a £22,500 bung from bankers Goldman Sachs for two and a half hours work – for anyone interested, that’s a rate of £150 a minute. They were robbed!
Remember the old Nick Clegg? Yes, us too – piously preaching that “irresponsible behaviour by bankers” was the cause of society’s ills that he was having to clear up in Government. Well, the shoe’s on the other foot now…
