The Mayor of Lyme Regis found that some of his residents were unwilling to accept his most recent remarks.

Owen Lovell attempted to address his local council’s housing crisis by arguing that “morally behaved” people should be treated preferentially to single mothers and drug addicts.

The result was a Twitter-storm of abuse from those accustomed to relying on the State, forcing Mr Lovell to apologise.

His surrender will not endear him to the taxpayers of Lyme Regis.
