Hungary has been slapped down for having the temerity to control its borders against an unprecedented influx of migrants.
Of course, this is to be expected when one is a member of the European Union, but what makes this particular barb worse is that it was Jean Asselborn, Foreign Minister of Luxembourg and member of the Socialist Workers’ Party.
Being out of touch with most of Europe’s workers’ views on the migration crises, Asselborn said Hungary’s razor wire border disregarded the “values of the EU”, and that they should be kicked out of the bloc.
Hungary don’t seem to care, and rightly so, saying that Luxembourg was merely a “tax haven” offering nothing but “condescending and uppity” comments. It seems those in the beleaguered East are Hungary for some independence, they have a referendum on migrant quotas next month, and TCW has a rough idea of how it might turn out…
