Nicola Sturgeon seems determined to introduce her vaccine passport scheme. You can imagine the outcry if during the 1980s gay people or haemophiliacs had been required to present proof of being AIDS- or HIV-free, or of being fully medicated, before they could enter a venue.

I absolutely cannot believe this has happened. Just look at these hefty fines and the ages of those caught out breaking ‘lockdown law’. I have not investigated the addresses but chances are these are not your wealthy citizens able to shrug off a fine like this.
A 22-year-old ‘Going outside her home in a Tier 4 area without a reasonable excuse’. Fined £1,760 and must pay £90 court costs and a £176 victim surcharge.
A 23-year-old ‘proved guilty of participating in a gathering of two or more people after getting caught in a Ford Fiesta in Shirley Road, Southampton’ – same steep fine.
A 19-year-old ‘participated in a gathering of two or more people at his home address’, fined £492 with £90 court costs and a £49 victim surcharge.
Eighteen people were mentioned in the article and they are but ‘a selection of the cases’ according to the once much-respected Hampshire Chronicle.
How can we let this happen? I feel ashamed for us as a nation. How many young people at no real danger to themselves or others have had a fine like this? Has Piers Corbyn paid his fines? I do hope not.
I am 75 with an autoimmune disease and as soon as Sunetra Gupta suggested people like me should stay out of the way while much of the rest of the country carried on I thought it was such a good plan that it would be implemented straight away – but no, the unstoppable juggernaut was already on the road.
COP26 continues to dominate the TV news and press headlines but why are the emissions created by these COPs never disclosed? There needs to be an estimate of the additional greenhouse gas emissions that COP26 will create. There will be 30,000 delegates plus press, transport, Police Scotland and others. The estimate of the emissions that will be created by this latest jamboree should then be compared with the improved emission reduction promises from the 197 countries attending. If they are not better than the emissions created by COP26 then COP26 should be cancelled. However the majority of countries, with China foremost, have refused to give updated emission reduction targets to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Without these targets COP26 is dead in the water. The previous 25 years of COPs achieved nothing but hot air and COP26 will be no different.
