It is the biggest current story on Facebook. It has caused a Congressional investigation. It has taken thirty months of hard work to bring to the surface. But nowhere in the English mainstream news do you read of the videos which expose Planned Parenthood’s trade in babies’ body parts.
Perhaps we will hear of them, because there are more to come. A grouping of pro-life organisations in America under lead investigator David Deleiden of the Center for Medical Progress have brought together on film indisputable evidence that Planned Parenthood are bartering aborted babies’ livers, hearts and kidneys.
Knowledge that this is happening isn’t new. However, the pro-lifers are not popular with the press (viz the current silence) and the abortion industry is a pastmaster at ducking and weaving and somehow still holding its head high and government institutions in its thrall.
What has woken even some pro-choice people up is the cruel reality caught on film of how an aborted foetus is not made up of anonymous “tissue” but of real organs that have a market price. The two videos already published show senior officials at Planned Parenthood admitting to sting investigators that organs are valuable, that the money goes into Planned Parenthood’s own pockets (what mother would want it anyway?) and that abortion procedures can be altered to suit removal of particular specimens in pristine condition.
You plan the day by matching the list of desired organs against the optimum gestation periods of the pregnancies before you. You then make sure to crunch the body of each baby in such a way as to preserve the target parts. The head, being the biggest organ, is particularly difficult to extract in one piece. By twisting the baby into breach delivery in a ghoulish (and outlawed) partial-birth abortion, even that can be successfully rescued.
If Planned Parenthood’s officials show qualms, it is on altering abortion procedures against the mothers’ best interests. But money speaks. And so do the two doctors. Many viewers have been taken aback by how these abortion doctors chat away about breaking the law, making money, and crunching babies in between sips of wine and forkfuls of salad. What strikes me is how ready they are to talk, almost glad to have somebody to share their trade with.
No more, of course. Dr Deborah Nucatola, Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood, is refusing to come before the Congressional committee investigating the issue and she appears to have been duly dumped by Planned Parenthood’s President and CEO Cecile Richards. More news will no doubt follow.
But already there are many general points to muse upon. The first is to ask who wants all these body parts? The medical establishment? Perhaps the cosmetic industry? I remember long ago refusing to let a child of mine have an MMR jab because the rubella element had been developed using “foetal tissue”. Perhaps we all need to wake up to what that actually means, and make a public stand against the drug and other companies that take part in such a gruesome trade.
We can also be glad of the social media. Rev Frank Pavone of Priests for Life suggests that the story is receiving so much traction because at last ordinary people have a platform in which to express their outrage.
But I think that there is a message even bigger than that, which is that we have become a society so numbed by the platitudes of tolerance and choice that we are all too inclined to block out of our minds physical realities which are too much for us. Perhaps these films will help to wake us up.
