READERS may enjoy getting acquainted with two of TCW’s academic contributors: international relations expert Bruce Newsome, whose commentary for us can be found here, and economist Robert Sauer, whose posts are here. Both swim against the tide of conventional Leftish liberal thought and, I am delighted to say, met through TCW’s pages. Recently, as a result, they got together for an edition of ‘Risky Scientists’, designed to discuss the riskiest issues of the week and hosted by Aditya Ranganathan, who teaches data science at Harvard, and Bruce. In this edition they discuss the macroeconomic impact of governments’ lockdown response to the Covid-19 virus.
Stiffen your sinews – it is depressing indeed. Their discussion travels through mass unemployment, a ten-year recovery period, a decrease of a third in business start-ups, bankruptcies, reduced business capacity with social distancing rules and more.
The plus side is how nice it is to ‘meet’ them and see and hear them, if only by Zoom.
You can subscribe to the Risky Scientists’ YouTube channel here, and follow them on Twitter here.
