In the fourth part of the ABC series on Melania Trump which we’ve being showing, interviewer Tom Llamas confronts the First Lady with the #MeToo movement (‘Can they call you a supporter?’) and then head-on over her husband’s alleged infidelity. She had, Llamas acknowledges, agreed to the interview with no preconditions.
You see a woman determined neither to lie nor to be drawn into saying anything that would provoke further negative media comment on her marriage or her husband. It’s a tightrope act, but she manages it, pausing but not teetering, with poise and grace suggesting that behind her beauty lies a political acuity and personal command that media commentators have not credited her with.
If ABC thought this series would damage the Presidential couple, it’s surely backfired.
