Daft climate zealots with ever more money to burn

-

The writer is in Australia.

THE recently released Climate the Movie featured on TCW over the first week on April devoted one of its sections to what is known as the climate consensus – its funding to the tune of billions for climate research for which ‘academics of every kind lined up . . . an exciting new area of interest for sociologists, biologists, professors of English literature, lecturers in gender studies, and many more’. And how none of this money has ever been made available to those scientists challenging this core article of faith.

To quote from the movie: ‘Paying lip service to the climate alarm has become almost universal among those who depend on government for their livelihoods. This includes those in the publicly-funded education, arts and science establishments.’

What it didn’t do within the limitations of time and the overall subject matter covered was to give examples of how every single school or university or business will have signed up to this agenda and the pressure they are under to do so.

Take for example Tasmania University’s Curious Climate Schools unit set up in 2020 which has arranged for teachers of more than 2,000 Tasmanian children in scores of schools to run class ‘brainstorms’ about the alleged global warming peril. Most schools in Australia now routinely pushing climate change in the primary school curriculum – scaremongering that is tantamount to child abuse.

At the opposite end of the public funding spectrum the US Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has designated two wind turbine energy areas in deep water off the Oregon coast. The BOEM is also reviewing offshore wind energy development options for the Gulf of Maine, the Gulf of Mexico and maybe the Great Lakes. The US Department of Energy says ‘offshore wind is especially well-suited’ for generating ‘clean energy’. Two-thirds of all US offshore wind potential, it states without blinking, exists over ocean areas so deep that turbines must be mounted on floating platforms anchored to the seafloor by mooring lines tied to suction piles sunk into bottom sediments (my emphasis).

A more insane idea, utterly divorced from the reality of physics and engineering, is hard to imagine. The astronomical cost is airily ignored. Costs include driving the piles in deep water into the ocean bed until the pile driver can no longer drive them any further, known as refusal, because the friction is too great. The length of the piles to reach this point will be unknown. How will the 600ft long, very thick mooring wires be attached to the piles and to the undersides of the platforms? Heavy seas and strong winds will cause the platforms to sway. A Shell cable-tethered drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina; the rig was blown over on to its side, but it was the whiplash of it swinging back when the wind suddenly dropped that caused the derrick to snap off. Then there is the problem of carrier cables from the platforms to the shore and thence to the nearest control station. With a life of 20 years at best, with frequent, very expensive maintenance and repair costs in this harsh environment, the CO2 produced in their manufacture and installation (never mind decommissioning) will nowhere near be saved during their lifetime. A Net Zero action which will actually increase CO2 emissions is being pushed by those who believe in this disproven theory.

We know the long list of daft ideas to reduce CO2 emissions that keep the bandwagon rolling, the myths fortified and the vast sums of money poured into schemes to do so:

·       carbon capture and storage

·       green hydrogen

·       burning biomass in Drax power station (which actually releases more CO2 than burning coal)

·       electric cars

·       solar panels in the British climate

·       batteries as backup

·       eating less meat

·       ULEZ

The soon-to-be Prime Minister (if the polls are to be believed) Sir Keir Starmer has meanwhile vowed to prohibit any more drilling for oil and gas in the North Sea. Northern England sits on huge reserves of oil and gas easily exploited by fracking but although the current government lifted the moratorium on it last September, Labour is dead set against it. Therefore we continue to import electricity from France and oil and gas from the US, Norway and Middle East states.

As Climate the Movie points out, the fearmongering about manmade global warming and the relentless drive for zero carbon dioxide emissions is driven by money. Besides grant applications, every wind or solar farm developer will be guaranteed a lucrative income stream, even when they fail to provide energy. This new new Scottish offshore wind farm, Andrew Montford argues, may cost £500million a year in subsidies. Farmers are bribed to have the sun or wind turbines on their land rather than cows or wheat. Offshore wind farm developers refuse to bid on developments until the government agrees to raise the already huge subsidy payments so they can make a nice profit. Worst and most effective are the multitude of national, international government bodies and NGOs that are fully paid-up believers in and promoters of the hoax: the United Nations (the worst), the BBC, CNN, most of the mainstream media and virtually all big business leaders, banks, big manufacturers, universities who are willing to play the game, drawn into this lucrative (for some, but not the consumer) and virtue-signalling bandwagon. Shareholders of listed companies  push for more climate action. Celebrities signal their virtue by making comments on social media about the impending doom of mankind. No wonder that the majority of the populations in the West are global warming believers.

Everywhere you turn the scare is front and centre. Debate is forbidden, sceptics are ignored, silenced or fired from their jobs, or falsely accused of being in the pay of Big Oil. Anyone who is in any way a global warming sceptic falls foul of this vile website, never mind their scientific credentials. Common sense, reality, physics and thermodynamics are dismissed as irrelevant. Manmade global warming is an article of faith in populations across the globe and in the West has become a replica religion or cult, with the Church of England an active proponent. Such is the power of propaganda over people who have become conditioned to accept, never to question, everything they are told.

This is what the brave scientists who reveal the truth, supported by unimpeachable scientific data, are up against. It’s a steep mountain to climb.
