Nick Booth: Trump scolded for highlighting Sweden’s rape crisis

-

Donald Trump and his staff are to apologise to the people of Sweden, after he insinuated that violence is on the rise in their country. In fact, it’s just rapes that have surged. Though rape had previously been regarded as an indicator of the abuse of male power, and an expression of violence, the once taboo act has now been re-categorised in certain circumstances if a more fashionable victim group has become available on the Emotional Currency Markets.

Sophisticated members of the media have rushed onto Twitter to mock the American President’s lack of understanding of this nuance.

Trump had mistakenly assumed that a doubling of the number of reported rapes could be an indicator of rising violence. In fact, these were what spin doctors might call the “right kind of rapes” where unfashionable members of the ‘check your privilege’ community are having their lives ruined. In this case, they are out-victimed by the rapists, who often have powerful cards to play, such as a war in someone else’s country and/or their status as self-identified children.

“Fancy not knowing when a rape is violent and when it’s privilege checking,” said one critic, “Hillary Clinton would have known the difference.”
