No whites please – we’re the RAF


THE head of the Royal Air Force’s recruiting team has resigned amid claims that the service has paused recruitment of white men to hit diversity targets, the Telegraph reported last week. 

An RAF spokesman had hardly denied it before parading his force’s woke credentials: ‘Royal Air Force commanders will not shy away from the challenges we face building a service that attracts and recruits talent from every part of the UK workforce. As with the Royal Navy and British Army, we are doing everything we can to encourage recruiting from under-represented groups and ensure we have a diverse workforce.’

Who to believe? The decision to ‘pause’ entry to white people sounds to be one of those outrages typical of our time – so absurd that it has to be true. Why would we not believe it when we hear Air Chief Marshal Mike Wigston, the head of the RAF, insisting on ‘profound’ change in the recruitment of personnel and the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) also committing to doubling, to 40 per cent, recruitment of women by 2030 and 20 per cent from ethnic minorities, using ‘targeted interventions’ within a legal framework of ‘positive action’.

Why would we not believe it when the Head of the Armed Forces Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, a senior Royal Navy officer, announced last December that the first priority for the forces should be . . . diversity. 

This was his first speech in the role, and he went further – saying that diversity was not about ‘wokefulness’ but ‘woefulness’: ‘The woefulness of too few women. The woefulness of not reflecting the ethnic, religious and cognitive diversity of our nation.’

Radakin has invented a new diversity category – that of ‘cognitive diversity’. He appears to qualify for that himself on three grounds: firstly simply by saying it, secondly by placing the combat effectiveness of the defence of the realm in a distant second place to discrimination, thirdly, by his own service’s non-co-operation with protecting our shores when it refused to stop illegal immigrants sailing to Britain.

It is time to label these discrimination practices fairly. This is not about fairness, or justice. Diversity is about a new demand for every identity representation other than white. It reflects and practises a far wider policy of discrimination against white British people in their own homeland. Such a sustained and systematised programme of the elimination of any other ethnic group from employment, opportunity and preferment would be impossible even to mention. Yet we are used to hearing news which effectively relegates white Britons to the status of second-class citizens whilst conferring privileged treatment on others.

You would have to be cognitively diverse to think this is sustainable.

Apart from any question of race, what is the wisdom in employing anyone for reasons other than competence? It ignores too the question of demand. This cannot be conjured. Not everyone wants to play in a rock band, not everyone wants to fly a plane. Secondly, if we do have a democracy, can we be reminded of when this matter of changing the basis of how we recruit our armed forces was put to the vote? It will be alarming to people to realise that the armed forces are now more concerned with diversity than defence. Of course, at the direction of Ben Wallace, the Army used the 8th of February to beclown itself, reminding soldiers that words are violence, and of the importance of replacing the laddish culture that helps us fight enemies with diversity and inclusion.

Both Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid have denounced the RAF’s decision. They enjoy the comfortable position of privilege conferred by not being white, and are therefore able to say sensible things out loud. The obvious question is why we are in this situation at all.

This is far from an isolated incident. The institutions – all of them – are captive to this ideology. British institutions largely view Anglo-Saxon ethnic Brits as a problem to be done away with by means of upbeat slogans attached to quotas. The civil service, medicine, the judiciary, politics, education and policing, access to university and employment with the BBC are all subject to this sort of albophobia. Alba – meaning ‘white’ in Latin – of course gives us ‘Albion’, the ancient name for a homeland increasingly more real in memory than in experience.

Ticking that ‘white’ box on the application form can mean you can forget about a call back. Being socially advantaged is the latest code word for being white, which will apparently affect your A-levels this year – as well as your likelihood of getting a place.

Professor Alan Smithers, the director of the Centre for Education and Employment, said: ‘Universities are being pressured by the government and Office for Students to take into account social factors when admitting students. This infringes university autonomy and is bad for the entrants because they may not be able to keep up.’

If you think this an over-reaction, consider which group has the worst outcomes in every area of life. From educational attainment and university entrance to multigenerational disadvantage and suicide – it is white working-class males. This has been the case for over 30 years. Clearly, this account of ‘social factors’ does not include those facing young white men. Where is their ‘white privilege’? Unsurprisingly, a military career is often their only chance of a new life. What are we to say when the RAF shuts them out?

Anecdotally, I hear of young white men ticking the gay box just to get interviewed for a manual job. It is becoming common practice, just as many applicants to US colleges do their best to avoid ticking ‘white’.

Preference on the basis of group membership is not a net benefit but a zero-sum game. You cannot award preference to one group without subtracting it from another. If you are unfortunate enough to be young and British you will know how this plays out in the housing market, as our government aims to house over a hundred thousand foreigners this year – free of charge – whilst no one British under 30 has much of a chance at their own home.

To notice these things – that preference for one is to the detriment of another – is labelled fascism. In truth, it is factism. Some people will not listen to facts they dislike. That is anti-factist action.

To present this hostility to white people as fairness is an injury to the truth. In reality, white people are being acculturated not only to sit at the back of the bus, but to get off and walk. The police, to whom we may expect to turn for help, cancel white recruits and discriminate against them. If you are the type to notice patterns it is impossible to overlook the creeping exclusion of white people from so many areas of opportunity – and of power.

We should be used to this trick by now – that the slogans of progress mean the opposite of what they say. Academics attend courses on how to cancel people effectively – ruin the careers of those who disagree – in the name of ‘social and racial justice’. We all know now what this ‘justice’ means. ‘Diversity’ means ‘not white’. ‘Inclusion’ means ‘exclusion’ – of white people from the institutions and workplaces of their own home.

It is time to stop using the false labels of progress. The transformation of the normal white British into just another identity group is not progress, it is ghetto-ising.
