I watched several hours of live feed of the demonstrations at Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park and can confirm that these were two of the most peaceful demonstrations that I have ever witnessed.
In the Square, people were standing in their thousands, quietly listening to speakers, or when asked to singing along or shouting slogans together. The event had official permission from the Metropolitan police and it started with a minute’s silence to remember the police officer killed last week. Just over 2 hours in, that permission was revoked and the TSG were sent in, masked and wielding batons.
One of the things that I find most disturbing is that at Wandsworth police station, Dr Schoening had the book in his possession confiscated. That book was ‘Corona False Alarm? Facts and Figures’ by fellow doctors Karina Reiss and Sucharit Bhakdi published in English translation. There is free e-publishing download somewhere.
When the police confiscate books to shut down the transmission of factual information, ideas or imagination we are entering the world of Fahrenheit 451. Please, those of you with good memories, commit to memory the speeches of Churchill and Shakespeare’s plays before Boris Johnson bans them.
