On a more uplifting note, about 200 at least gathered in the large square of our nearest East Anglian town. The mayor was present and the simple but sufficient service was read by a tartan-trousered, blazer-wearing member of the British Legion. The three PCSOs present were affable and helpfully stopped the traffic just before the two-minute silence started. Fewer than a quarter wore the dreaded face masks.
