In response to Chris McGovern: They can’t even bribe people to be teachers, AJ wrote:
Any man entering the teaching profession is putting himself into an overtly hostile environment against men. A look at the teaching union websites will show a focus on encouraging women and overcoming obstacles to women’s progress, despite the fact that women dominate the profession at all levels up to head teacher. In discussions of equality they only mention disadvantages to women and girls, which is quite revealing given women’s dominance of the profession and the poor performance of boys relative to girls. There is also a considerable risk from false accusations.
On top of this we have the lack of an appropriate disciplinary framework and respect for teachers in many schools, which makes the job difficult and unattractive.
The culture of the teaching profession is the major problem and I am not sure how that can be resolved.
