In response to Bruce Newsome: What chance of a true conservative leading the Tories?

What chance? No chance.

Johnson made all the right noises in his leadership pitch the other day but then Boris only ever makes the right noises when he wants something.

His allusions to conservatism and free speech were merely for show. What he would do if he gains power (which looks likely), we have no idea. Though he hasn’t been painted as a continuity figure, it wouldn’t surprise me if he continued to lead the Tories away from conservatism.

So no, there’s no chance we’ll have a proper conservative leading that party. They stayed away from the leadership race.
