Appalling. Also, there’s our aid to Rwanda – £62million, of which the president is spending £30million on football sponsorship, £463million aid to Pakistan – a country with around 20,000 millionaires and where only 0.57 per cent, or 768,000 people out of a population of 190million, pay income tax – and the roughly £100million in aid which we send to India every year, [Editor’s note: The government has recently promised £98million spread over this year and next, but India has received more in previous years, for example £150million in 2015 ] and which they have said publicly they don’t want or need. I know there are desperately poor people in those countries needing help, but our money seems to go straight into the coffers of the ruling elite. The poor stay poor, but the builders of garish mansions and the makers of private jets seem to do very nicely, thank you.
