As PM, Mrs May ultimately carries the can for what happens on June 8th. She leads a party that has been espousing left-wing policies for many years. My suspicion is that Mrs May is more Thatcherite than she may appear. She does, however, lead a party full of lefties whom she needs, like it or not, to keep her in power.
Some of the dross in the manifesto is probably to appease these Blairite Tories. She has not surrounded herself with the best of ministers either. Bumbling Boris is the FCO buffoon and Hapless Hammond can’t be bothered to check what was in the 2015 manifesto. I hope the Tories win on the 8th because the alternative is too grim to contemplate. I hope the 9th June will see a cabinet reshuffle with some new people who actually want to do the job well.
