In response to Chris McGovern: Lessons in radicalism are playing with fire, Busy Mum wrote:
I very recently challenged a Year 8 English teacher about using Philip Pullman’s books in class. I asked for assurance that the class, most of whom would be otherwise unaware, would be told that the Biblical quotes in the book were inaccurate. Her response was that as an ‘inclusive school’, the staff refrain from commenting on any religious ‘wrong texts’ as it is important that lessons remain ‘objective’.
I am busy this week, but my reply to her next week will ask how excluding truth counts as either inclusive or objective. I am not asking her to state an opinion on the book or on the Bible, merely to state a fact about it.
