In response to Ollie Wright: Requiem for a Labour Party that cared, Suthringa wrote:
As someone who had been a Labour Party member since YS in 1969 serving on Ward and Branch and a Trades Union rep regularly, and then time out as my career developed but still a member until 1997, I was asked by an old friend to sum up what the Labour Party is today.
‘It is now a combination of unprincipled careerists, especially in Parliament, and ideological fantasists, some manage to be both eg Corbyn, but neither has any connection to the previous traditional working class aspirationalism, possibility of social mobility and egalitarianism. Indeed both are sneeringly antipathetic to this.’
A mouthful I know, but that is my experience.
