Schools need to be free. Free to set their own curriculum, timetable, admissions. Grammar schools are a welcome first step. But that is all they are. Without the removal of Stasi Ofsted, no worthwhile change will happen.
That is what I thought free schools were going to be. However, we see excellent and popular free schools closed because a (in one case) an 11 year old girl could not describe in enough detail to a male inspector what a lesbian did in bed.
In many ways, schools were freer in East Germany in the 1970s.
