In response to Laura Perrins: Tories should ditch modernisation and balance the books, wisest religion wrote:
In the absence of a moral message, as Laura advocates, Conservatives are fighting with one hand tied behind their back. The Left integrates religion and politics. It harnesses its political aspirations to the powerful engine of religion (though they would never call it that). Appealing to the heart as well as the head gives the Left an unstoppable strength. Conservative politics was in the past closely allied to Christian belief.
However, Conservatives have followed the atheist drift in our culture. In modernising and detaching themselves from Christianity they have become rootless and shallow, with only a technical offering to the public but nothing to ignite the soul.
As many of us know personally, faith in Christ is the most satisfying of all beliefs; if only the Conservatives had the courage to defy the liberal PC scoffers and rediscover the moral foundation which is both true and also deeply embedded in our own British culture.
